چکیده

The Iberian Peninsula is one of the most humanized areas in Europe, yet humans may cohabit with large predators, such as wolf (Canis lupus signatus), at expense many contributions to its conservation. limited wolves’ territory leads a close relationship between this wild species, humans, and other animals, which promote spillover pathogens, gastrointestinal parasites. This review intends provide an update concerning parasite findings performed using coprological methods on fecal samples from wolves. Studies conducted Portugal Spain through coprology presented prevalence parasites 57.0–100% 21.5–68.3% Portugal. Parasites belonging Protozoa, Trematoda, Cestoda, Nematoda were specified, alongside thirteen genera twenty species In study, 76.9% (10/13) 65.0% (13/20) identified having zoonotic potential. These results highlight that further studies are needed better understand parasitic agents circulating areas, Peninsula.

Parasite species of the endangered Iberian wolf (Canis lupus signatus) and a sympatric widespread carnivore

Parasites have a profound impact on wildlife population dynamics. However, until some years ago, studies on the occurrence and prevalence of wildlife parasites were neglected comparatively with the studies on humans and domestic animals. In this study, we determined the parasite prevalence of two sympatric wild canids: the endangered Iberian wolf (Canis lupus signatus) and the widespread red fo...

Taeniid species of the Iberian wolf (Canis lupus signatus) in Portugal with special focus on Echinococcus spp.☆

Taeniid species represent relevant pathogens in human and animals, circulating between carnivorous definitive hosts and a variety of mammalian intermediate hosts. In Portugal, however, little is known about their occurrence and life cycles, especially in wild hosts. An epidemiological survey was conducted to clarify the role of the Iberian wolf as a definitive host for taeniid species, includin...

Habitat evaluation for the Iberian wolf Canis lupus in Picos de Europa National Park, Spain

A GIS multivariate model based on the Mahalanobis distance statistic is proposed to evaluate habitat suitability for the wolf Canis lupus in northern Spain. Results derived from the model show that wolves can potentially thrive in some habitats on the southern and western side of the study area where conflicts with the human population are minimum. However, some other areas that have been recen...

To Eat or Not To Eat? The Diet of the Endangered Iberian Wolf (Canis lupus signatus) in a Human-Dominated Landscape in Central Portugal

Livestock predation by large carnivores and their persecution by local communities are major conservation concerns. In order to prevent speculations and reduce conflicts, it is crucial to get detailed and accurate data on predators' dietary ecology, which is particularly important in human dominated landscapes where livestock densities are high. This is the case of the endangered Iberian wolf i...

Rotation of the iberian peninsula.

Jones and Ewing (1) have presented seismic profiler data from the Bay of Biscay which allows a 120 anticlockwise rotation of the Iberian peninsula between Eocene and Middle to Upper Miocene times. They refer several times to the fact that this va'ue is appreciably less than a rotation of 220, which they believe resulted from our paleomagnetic study of the Lisbon Volcanics (2). We must point out...
